Reduce household bills by improving energy efficiency

Wednesday, July 7th 2010

Cash-strapped Brits could attempt to decrease the size of their household bills as one way to try and save money.

With home energy bills on the rise in recent years, starting with these may be a wise move.

The Sydney Morning Herald offers people tips on how to reduce their consumption, starting with lowering the amount of lighting in a property.

Other advice includes turning off electrical appliances - such as televisions, microwaves and stereos - when they are not in use and changing lights so that they are powered by energy-saving bulbs.

And in times of particularly hot or cold weather, it is important not to overheat or drastically cool a building, as this can cost a significant amount, the newspaper explains.

The Kansas City Star recently highlighted the effectiveness of adding insulation to the walls of a home when it comes to reducing energy bills, adding the installation of a thermostat can also be useful.
