Holidaying during school time could helps Britons save cash
Monday, July 5th 2010
Britons hoping to get away on holiday over the summer months may find they save money by booking a break during school term-time.
This is the advice of Emma Roberts at Santander Cards, who explained those who want to travel when schools have broken up for the summer could be faced with "massively inflated premiums".
She warned prices can rise by as much as 85 per cent for those hoping to head abroad during the school holiday season, or by 75 per cent if staying in the UK.
Research by the firm showed the average price of an overseas holiday package went up by 38 per cent between mid-July - when most pupils are still at school - to mid-August, when they are on their summer holiday.
In addition to some careful timing, holidaymakers should also make a note of the fees they will have to pay when using their credit or debit card overseas.
According to the Daily Mail, some providers charge up to £4.95 for every £100 withdrawal.
