Reduce energy bills by following green tips
Wednesday, June 30th 2010
Britons could take note of a series of tips on how to save money on their home energy bills.
The San Francisco Chronicle suggests there are ten ways to cut power consumption and shrink the size of bills, with the quickest option named as insulation.
Adding extra layers to the perimeter walls of a house helps to keep heat in and lessen the amount required from a boiler.
People may also wish to install a thermostat, which can mean an end to coughing up cash to heat and light an empty home and will almost certainly pay for itself in no time, the newspaper notes.
Other pieces of advice handed out include fixing leaks, installing dimmers and cleaning windows.
"The best way to invest in your home is to take good care of what's already there. With these simple repair jobs, you'll even save money," the publication states.
Emma Thompson of E.ON is another to back the use of insulation, with the expert recently saying it can drive down the cost of both gas and electricity.
