Help on how to avoid identity theft offered

Credit card users have been offered some tips on how to avoid becoming victims of fraud when using their plastic to pay for goods online.

More than 92 million people in the US completed transactions over the internet with a credit card last year, Trading Markets reports.

While the vast majority enjoy the experience of making purchases from their front room, a small number become the victims of identity theft and experience concerns about their cash.

The publication advises the simplest way to check a website is legitimate is to look for the encryption code - usually https.

Other tips include avoiding spam emails and the links offered in them, as well as not clicking on pop-up adverts.

It is also worth looking out for a sign of authenticity, usually provided by a company to show a site has been verified as safe to use.
