World Cup could be money loser for homeowners
Monday, June 14th 2010
Homeowners have been warned to stay away from holiding extravagant World Cup parties if they wish to avoid losing money this summer.
Research by the Post Office reveals 90 per cent of football fans will watch at least some of the tournament from their front room.
And almost a third (31 per cent) will invite friends to join them to share the action on screen.
While some people may feel this is a cheap alternative to a night on the town or a trip to the local pub, costs of additional food and drink can spiral.
Indeed, the study reveals a third of those staying at home will increase spending by at least £200 this summer, totalling a significant £2 billion.
Some of the largest expenses include the purchase of more alcohol than usual, extra food, football shirts and other equipment and new plasma televisions.
The World Cup kicked off on Friday(June 11th) and lasts exactly a month.
