Use insulation to cut down home energy bills

Friday, June 4th 2010

People looking to shrink the size of their household bills have been offered advice by an energy expert.

Emma Thompson, of E.ON, says insulation is the key to driving down power consumption and saving on gas and electricity bills.

She believes the initial payout for the installation of insulation can be easily recouped within a year - meaning the potential to save is significant.

One tip is to use the summer - when heating is typically unused - to invest in insulation with the cash saved from lower energy bills.

"Therefore, come the winter time, they will be looking to make a saving of about a third on their heating bills if they were un-insulated," explains Ms Thompson.

The expert also suggests small and subtle changes can make a difference, such as leaving curtains open on warm days to heat rooms.

A new Energy Efficiency Indicator released by Johnson Controls this week suggested businesses are also trying to cut power bills, with 56 per cent maintaining or increasing spending on efficiency techniques.ADNFCR-1794-ID-19817950-ADNFCR
