Couples could live on a budget to pay for wedding

Friday, June 4th 2010

An increasing number of couples may need to cut household bills if they are to budget successfully for a wedding.

New research by Tesco Bank shows the bride and groom are now more likely to pay for a ceremony than their parents, with each putting an average of £4,700 towards the big day.

Those in Norwich are most likely to pay for their own wedding, with 64 per cent not being helped by parents.

At the other end of the scale, loved-up couples in the Welsh capital of Cardiff appear to be the luckiest, with 61 per cent benefiting from cash from mum and dad.

In total, 52 per cent of Britons now pay for their wedding, meaning a lot of people could be living on a tight budget in the run-up to their ceremony.

Financial worries are affecting guests as well as happy couples though, with research this week by Direct Line showing it costs an average of £294 to attend a wedding.ADNFCR-1794-ID-19819716-ADNFCR
