Expert: Stop wasting money and make homes more efficient
Tuesday, May 25th 2010
Homeowners looking to save money might consider reducing their electricity bills, which is best done if people understand how many units they use.
According to TV presenter and eco campaigner James Strawbridge, Britons can save money by cutting down on wasted heat.
"Everyone has got a bit of scrooge in them and they suddenly realise 'this money is being wasted' and they start changing their lifestyle," he says.
This makes people realise certain appliances can be switched off and may be unnecessary, Mr Strawbridge continues.
Energy efficiency may also prove to be a useful measure taken by landlords, as the Residential Landlords Association claims more and more tenants want properties with green credentials.
Mr Strawbridge advises people to look at the home they spend the most time in and consider how heat can be saved in that space.
Steps as simple as getting a good pair of curtains might help to cut out draughts, he adds.
