Boiler scrappage scheme 'saved money for thousands of Brits'
Thursday, May 13th 2010
The boiler scrappage scheme saved money for many households and could have been extended, according to an expert.
Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council said it had been a real success and could have gone on to continue this triumph.
Not only did it save money for individuals, but businesses might have profited too.
"I think a number of boiler manufacturers have been very pleased with the response to the boiler scrappage scheme and it has given a big boost to their production and sales," he stated.
According to figures from the Energy Saving Trust, some 125,000 vouchers were taken up by March 26th, giving recipients £400 off the cost of a new boiler.
To date, some 58,177 people have been paid their reimbursements for this cost and the other payments are being processed.
Mr Leech claimed it was a shame the scheme had to end, as it could have been extended to the north of the UK, where many people still struggle with energy bills.
