Contactless cards 'could really take off'
Thursday, April 29th 2010
Payment methods in the UK could be set to change as one expert predicts contactless cards to become more widespread.
Jemma Smith, head of public relations at UK Payments, says: "As soon as a large number of customers and retailers take it on, you will see that more people will become aware and make use of the technology."
And Datamonitor recently stated that m-commerce would be a "golden opportunity" businesses should not miss.
Ovum explains this refers to purchasing products and other services through over-the-air aspects of mobile devices.
Ms Smith agrees this area will see a rise and mobile payments are beginning to develop.
Until now, low-value expenses have not been paid for with cash alternatives, but contactless methods would be a convenient way to do so and more companies may soon recognise this.
This is particularly probable as Britain is known to have a fondness for making purchases via cards, Ms Smith adds.
