NLA: Void periods can be "very costly"

Wednesday, April 28th 2010

Landlords struggling financially as a result of empty properties may be pleased to hear reports the situation has stabilised.

According to the National Landlords Association (NLA), research shows high rates of void periods, but this is starting to level out.

David Salusbury, chairman of the body, commented: "No landlord likes void periods. They can end up being very costly indeed."

Last month, some 52 per cent of buy-to-let owners said they had had voids over the past year, but this was down from the 55 per cent who said so in the previous quarter.

Mr Salusbury advised those concerned about the problem to avoid empty properties altogether and aim to stay on good terms with their tenants.

The research found the average duration of such phases lasted 17 days, down from the 19 days previously reported.

NLA members can receive help from the body with issues concerning and affecting them, as well as advice on their rights and responsibilities.ADNFCR-1794-ID-19748317-ADNFCR
