Not all Brits can afford sustainable behaviour, expert claims
Tuesday, April 27th 2010
Many people do not have the finances to afford a switch to environmentally friendly behaviour, it has been claimed.
Tony Rooke, environmental manager for business and technology consultants Logica, stated businesses should set an example to individuals when it comes to sustainability.
"I think it's absolutely critical that we achieve behavioural change. The easiest way to do it is to make the choice of sustainable behaviour cheaper than the choice to be unsustainable," he says.
Acting in an eco-friendly manner can be difficult for those on a lower wage, Mr Rooke claims.
While loans may assist some, there are still those who cannot afford to change their habits and become completely sustainable.
Mr Rooke's comments follow the publication of the Green Party's election manifesto on April 16th.
The document highlighted plans for free home insulation programmes for all those in need - prioritising pensioners and Britons living in fuel poverty.
