Shoppers remain loyal to retailers
Friday, April 23rd 2010
Many British consumers choose to spend their money in one place and remain loyal to the retail outlet.
This is according to research from YouGov, published on April 21st, looking at loyalty schemes in the retail sector.
Some 93 per cent of shoppers said they would still spend their money in their preferred shop, even if it scrapped its loyalty card schemes.
Just 17 per cent said they chose where to shop based on such incentives.
It found 86 per cent of consumers regularly used a loyalty card, even though half did not think collecting points was worthwhile.
Approximately one-quarter of those quizzed said they would rather see promotional deals offered than points gained from purchases.
James McCoy, research director for YouGov SixthSense, said: "Retailers need to do more to ensure loyalty schemes engage with all types of customer."
A popular loyalty scheme that has been running for a number of years is offered by Boots in their Advantage Card initiative.
