HMRC home visits 'not always offered to those eligible'
Thursday, April 22nd 2010
People with an enquiry for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) who cannot get to an office or deal with their problem via telephone may be entitled to a home visit.
The Low Income Tax Reforms Group (LITRG) reveals not all customers are being offered this service.
It states the policy is outlined by HMRC, which states it can make a home visit if the customer speaks to an adviser through a helpline and explains their problems with the other means of contact.
But the LITRG states some people are being denied such a visit, despite having a "seemingly reasonable request".
This could be a result of those working at HMRC misunderstanding the policy and the needs of their customers.
And the organisation - which offers tax advice for those who cannot afford to pay for the guidance - is keen to hear from those who have been denied a home visit.
