Eco homeowners could earn money
Thursday, April 22nd 2010
Britons looking to save money could consider installing environmentally friendly technology in their homes.
According to James Meynell, co-founder of Going Solar, there is "increasing interest" in photovoltaic (PV) panels.
This hints that a number of homeowners are already seeing the benefits renewable energy initiatives could bring.
Mr Meynell dubs a government scheme, which financially rewards those creating their own electricity, "basically annual grants".
The money is paid to those with devices such as solar panels producing low-carbon electricity and could earn homeowners £900, the Department for Energy and Climate Change revealed.
"Depending on how many panels you've got, you get more back from the government so it's quite attractive, really," says Mr Meynell.
And according to iSuppli, global solar panel installations could see a 92.9 per cent year-on-year increase in 2010.
The prediction is based on surging sales, because previous estimates stood at 64 per cent and means PV output would rise to 13.6 gigawatts from seven last year.
