Salary 'is just one motivation' for employees
Tuesday, April 20th 2010
Salary is an important motivation for workers, but there are other equally significant factors, according to a recruitment expert.
Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Soceity, said: "Salary is just one thing. If you delved and did more detailed analysis, I suspect that most people would not look at salary alone in uncertain times."
Harris Interactive recently conducted a poll on behalf of the Metro newspaper, which found almost nine in ten people enjoy what they do.
A good salary was claimed to be the main motivating factor in a job and career coach Joanne Mallon stated this could be a result of the recession.
Some 665 people were polled for the survey and 58 per cent of them were home by 18:00 BST at the end of a working day.
Mr Huxham claimed it was not surprising that salary was a priority and there are probably a number of workers who have decided to stay with their company through the recession.
But those who feel undervalued may now start to look around for a different job, he predicted.
