Young UK workers 'moving abroad for jobs'
Monday, April 19th 2010
Britain's economy is forcing a number of young workers to move abroad in search of jobs, according to research.
The Aviva UK Health 'Semi-Gration' study looked at workers aged 18 to 30 and found 56 per cent believed other countries offer them better prospects.
And 54 per cent were thinking about moving abroad to benefit from these opportunities.
Independent travel expert Amanda Lamb reviewed the study and advised those considering emigrating to be aware of the practicalities this entails.
"A boomerang break might seem for young workers like a less radical move than emigrating from the UK," she explained.
Some 35 per cent of this group thought 'semi-grating' would allow them to receive a pay boost.
Although one-quarter revealed they would miss the NHS if they were to more abroad, the study found.
The UK officially exited the recession after the economy improved in the final quarter of 2009.
However some experts have expressed concern that a hung parliament resulting from this year's general election could harm the country's economy.
