Taxpayers advised to exercise caution in April
Thursday, April 15th 2010
Britons are being advised to be cautious about their wages this month, as there may be problems with payrolls.
According to the Low Incomes Tax Reforms Group (LITRG), the problems with payment codes for this financial year may be coming to light as payrolls are processed this month.
Workers who do not receive payslips are advised to be extra careful about the issue, which could cause confusion due to coding notices.
These notices should be immediately checked and workers should contact HM Revenue & Customs as soon as they think there may be a problem.
People who are happy with the coding notice should also check employers or pension providers have the same number, the organisation advised.
Those who do not have a payslip might be wise to check bank statements for consistency.
Established in 1998, the LITRG aims to "give a voice" to taxpayers who do not have the money to pay for tax advice.
