Insurance advice issued over volcanic ash cloud
Thursday, April 15th 2010
Britons who are unable to travel due to the volcanic ash cloud making its way across the country are being advised to speak to their insurance brokers.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) spoke out about the issue today (April 15th), after flights from the UK's airports were grounded.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for the organisation, said: "You should speak to your insurance broker who can advise you during these unusual circumstances. We are confident that all volcanic ash claims under the BIBA policy will be met."
Reports revealed this morning that many of Scotland's airports were closed because the cloud, which was making its way from Iceland, was obstructing the skies.
And later in the day air traffic control company Nats announced no flights would be operating in UK airspace until 7:00 GMT tomorrow.
Technical services manager at BIBA Steve Foulsham explained that insurance policies will differ on the issue, so it is vital people contact their own provider to clarify the situation.
