Under 40s 'main online debt help users in 2009'
Monday, April 12th 2010
The under 40s are most likely to seek debt help online, according to reports from Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS).
Some 150,000 people used the CCCS Debt Remedy tool last year - an online counselling facility for those in debt.
And two-thirds of these users were aged under 40, which follows the 2008 report with the same findings.
Head of E-Services at CCCS Paula Searle stated: "The higher rates of online debt counselling users in any particular category is likely to be a combination of need for help with their debts and general internet usage."
It was noted that 53 per cent of the users in 2008 and 2009 were female and 40 per cent of all users had an annual income of between £10,000 and £19,999.
But those earning in excess of £30,000 per year made up the smallest percentage.
The Debt Remedy tool asks users a series of questions concerning their household, income and expenditure and can be completed anonymously.
It then offers a CCCS Debt Remedy based on these circumstances.
