Action group calls for better saving incentives
Tuesday, April 6th 2010
The majority of British adults would like to see better incentives for saving money, according to an action group.
Save Our Savers - which aims to organise those saving money and highlight their importance to the country's economy - revealed 52 per cent of adults in the UK belief such incentives should be introduced.
Andrew Haldenby, a founder member of the group and representative of think-tank Reform, said: "Today could and should have been a day of celebration for savers, but instead we've seen no signs from the government that they are committed to saving."
The action group has dubbed today (April 6th) Black Tuesday and claimed the latest Budget, revealed by Alistair Darling, could have promoted a culture of saving.
According to 51 per cent of people quizzed, more comprehensive and simpler incentives should be introduced by the government.
However, recent research by NatWest found that many youngsters have emerged from the recession with better money management skills.
