Many Britons 'satisfied' with water value-for-money
Tuesday, April 6th 2010
In terms of value-for-money, many Britons are satisfied with their water supply and the basic service they receive.
This is according to head of public relations at the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) Dave Thompson, who notes that consumer research has found this is the case for a number of people.
Water prices can vary among the population of England and Wales and this can depend on factors such as availability.
"Many people are satisfied with the basic service they get and they're also pretty satisfied with the value-for-money that they get from water," he continued.
However, residents cannot choose their provider and the CCWater believes there should be more competition for businesses who may want to switch companies.
Domestic consumers may then be able to judge whether or not such choice would benefit them too, Mr Thompson added.
Last year a report on competition and innovation in the industry - the Cave Review - was published by Professor Martin Cave.
It recommended that Ofwat gives customers a "greater role" in determining their water company's services.
