TUC 'agrees with NAPF pensions blueprint'

Monday, March 29th 2010

A "more generous state provision" in terms of pensions is the right move to ask for, according to assistant general secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Kay Carberry.

She referred to the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) report Fit for the Future: NAPF's Vision for Pensions, which was published today (March 29th).

In the report the organisation explains it has created a "blueprint" for the future of UK pensions, with regards to the 2012 reforms to be made by the government.

Ms Carberry claimed calls for a "sensible approach" to minimum pension contributions - which the NAPF supports - was the right decision.

She continued: "While there are also some proposals that we do not support - public sector pensions are perfectly sustainable - this is a welcome contribution to debate."

Regardless of the result of the upcoming general election, Ms Caberry hoped such debate and work concerning the future of the country's pensions system would continue.
