Brits in debt 'are going online'
Tuesday, March 16th 2010
More and more Brits are going online to get help with their debt problems, Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has revealed.
Last year saw over 150,000 people using the service's Debt Remedy online counselling tool - almost two-thirds more than in 2008.
Furthermore, CCCS - the leading debt charity in the UK - predicts more people will use the internet than telephone by the end of this year.
It may be that the online tool is considered more accessible than other methods, because it is constantly available.
Head of E-Services at CCCS Paula Searle said: "It is crucial to seek help as soon as you realise you have a debt problem."
Many people feel ashamed, but the online solution allows users to remain anonymous, she added.
Following the CCCS revelation last week that men are more likely than women to get into debt, it could be that males in particular will benefit from this service.
