'Not enough finance' for green projects
Friday, February 19th 2010
Homeowners are lacking the finance to make their homes more environmentally friendly.
This is the view of editor at Build It Magazine Duncan Hayes, who explained that certain government initiatives help, but that there is an overall lack of funding.
He explained that many people are choosing to stay in their homes and make improvements rather than move, so spending on DIY should increase.
Speaking about the boiler scrappage scheme, Mr Hayes said it should be "applauded".
"But they never go far enough and the money never lasts long enough," he added.
The editor went on to say that the government should "put their money where their mouth is" and discount green incentives.
It was yesterday (February 18th) reported that there had been a 1.6 per cent drop in sales at B&Q in the 13 weeks to the end of January, compared with the previous year.
Mr Hayes predicted that this could have been down to the big freeze and the fact that many construction projects were put on hold for much of last month.
