Brits reminded of boiler scrappage scheme
Monday, February 15th 2010
Householders wishing to save money on their energy bills may consider taking part in the government's boiler scrappage scheme.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change is reminding Britons that there are still around 70,000 vouchers available for people wishing to take part in the scheme.
Some 54,758 homes have already claimed the vouchers, but the remaining money on offer is worth a total of £28 million.
Ed Miliband, energy and climate change secretary, said: "The scheme is helping householders to save around £200 a year off fuel bills and reduce emissions."
He added that 130,000 installers are getting work through the system, which is particularly important given the current economic outlook.
Jan Robson is just one of the thousands of Britons to have already participated in the scheme.
She said the new boiler has made her home feel warmer and will hopefully knock money off her energy bills.
Launched in January, the scheme aims to replace G-rated boilers - which are the least energy efficient - with new models.
